What an excellent week at Paris Arbitration Week, the ICC Arbitration Commission on Arbitration and ADR and the International Bar Association International Construction Projects Committee Working Weekend in Genoa. It was great catching up with friends and colleagues and sharing about the current trends in dispute prevention and resolution and construction law around the world.
The week started with an engaging and insightful discussion about dispute prevention in investment and commercial disputes, including through negotiation, mediation, dispute boards and fostering settlement within arbitration. I had the opportunity of sharing views with top experts: Dr. Yulia Levashova MCIArb, Marc Krestin, Agata Zwolankiewicz, Nataliia Bertagna-Tuzheliak, Kamalia Mehtiyeva, Dr. Hélène VAN LITH, Anna Guillard Sazhko, Christopher Campbell, Dr Saltanat Imanova, Diana Bayzakova, and Laure Jacquier. This conference grew out of OGEL Energy Law / Transnational Dispute Management (TDM)’s special issue «Dispute Prevention in ISDS: A Comparative Perspective from East and West». I look forward to its publication.
The Commission on Arbitration and ADR gathered more than 500 delegates from around the world for rich discussions on several key initiatives. The main highlights were the revision of the 2026 ICC Arbitration Rules and the approval of the report “The Corruption Inquiry: Addressing Issues of Corruption in International Arbitration”, along with documents on Burden and Standard of Proof and Parallel Proceedings, prepared by the ICC Task Force on Addressing Issues of Corruption in International Arbitration. There was also an excellent update on the work of the Task Force on AI in Dispute Resolution. It was a privilege to attend as a member of the ICC Perú delegation.
As always, the ICP Working Weekend facilitated a deep and rich exchange of ideas on key trends in construction law. This year, there was an insightful discussion on advising public owners on complex projects and the growing role of technology in construction. There was also a great mock arbitration focusing on disputes related to a delayed airport terminal project. Many thanks to the ICP co-chairs, Aarta Alkarimi, C.Arb, FCIArb (Arb and Med) and Douglas Oles, and to Arianna Perotti and Rob D’Onofrio, PE, CEng, for organizing this fantastic event.
